Acer to Further Grow the Academe Market

Local IT giant Acer Philippines, Inc. continues its thrust towards the further growth and development of the academic sector, one of its strongest partners in the market.

At the recently held Acer Academy Education Summit 2016, Acer invited representatives from various schools who are existing and potential clients. Acer showcased its various products such as desktops, laptops, tablets, monitors and projectors that cater to the education sector, to provide modern teaching equipment for today’s 21st Century classrooms.

The Acer Academy Education Summit is one of the events under the Acer Academy Program. It was designed to help create the digital classroom of the future and also help educational institutions in the country develop and strengthen their IT infrastructure through the use of efficient and innovative hardware and classroom solutions.

According to Carren Garcia, Channel Sales Manager for Commercial Business of Acer Philippines, being partners of Acer in the program entails several benefits to the school and the students. Some of those benefits, Garcia said, include Acer’s sponsorship of school events and activities.

“We also provide school faculty and IT personnel free training, campus tours, and their students are prioritized under Acer’s internship program. As an Acer Academy member, they get first crack at on-the-job or even possible hiring opportunities.”
The Acer Academy Program started back in 2012 with only 10 members, which include a good mix of public and private schools such as Ateneo de Manila University, Adamson University, De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas, among others. As of the first half of this year, there are already 80 members under the program, with some coming from as far as Mindanao. “We expect the number to grow further to 100 high schools and universities by the end of the year. Still, desktops continue to be the top purchase options for these partners for use in their computer laboratories and even for administration office,” Garcia added.

The academe also remains to be a major contributor to Acer’s Commercial Business Group, according to Garcia, in terms of sales, contributing 18 percent to become one of Acer’s Top 3 vertical markets. “Acer continues to be the top brand that caters to the education market and perhaps we are the only brand that is heavily involved in education.”

During the summit, Acer invited several guests that include Yvette Watson, Productivity Specialist from Microsoft Philippines, who talked about the use of Microsoft solutions in today’s high-tech classrooms; Paul Matthew Jeremy Soriano of Optimus Innovative Technologies Corp. and Sandra Lovenia, Director, Information Technology Resource Management Office, Ateneo de Manila University, one of Acer’s partner-schools in Acer Academy.
